Growing up in the Bulgarian countryside, Fo Petrov developed a strong connection to nature from an early age.
Gathering inspiration from organic formations and cascading elements such as waterfalls and thunders, the artist creates biomorphic forms by implementing gestural mark-making techniques.
Fo studied fashion design technology at London College of Fashion. During this time, he carried out an extensive research and subsequently developed an increasing curiosity in Eastern philosophy and spirituality. Eventually he wanted to dedicate his practice beyond the silhouettes of fashion and gradually moved on to less restrained ways of expression.
The process of his artistic journey is rooted in the way Fo sees. His acute pull to the silhouette and organic form, which was developed through his fashion expertise in pattern making, is today woven into his fine art practice.
At present, the artist focuses on exploring the notion of interconnectedness between people, nature and the communicating energies in-between, by portraying formation processes with harmonious ink compositions. Turning away from traditional brushes, the artist draws a direct link to nature using twigs and sticks as his main tools.
Fo’s forms can also be utilised for the purpose of realising three-dimensional objects and the subsequent creation of floating structures in a space.
Fundamentally, one of the artist’s main objectives is to invite the viewer to examine the depths of our interconnected existence and its often-complex essence.
Works have been exhibited in London at The Brick Lane Gallery, Aria, Mission E1, The Holy Art Gallery and Boomer Gallery. His work has also been featured in Barcelona/Algeria based magazine “Al-Tiba9”.
